I found her

While it’s not really a significant part of the mythology, nor is the Walter/Astrid relationship the most important on the show, I honestly consider Jasika’s face in this 2 second moment one of the greatest pieces of acting I’ve ever seen.  Her expression flawlessly combines shock and disgust with “of course he cut Bell’s hand off”.  It’s such an ideal expression of the culmination of their relationship.

I know that everyone’s already shipping these two hard.  But to be honest, I got more of a paternal vibe from their relationship.  Maybe it’s just my brain’s need for poetics and parallels, but hear me out.
Etta lost her parents at a young age.  So no doubt she’s constantly been looking for parental figures in her life.  Who better to be a father figure than a more experienced fringe agent that she works closely with (other than Broyles, who I’m assuming had to keep his distance from Etta to keep the identity of her parents a secret)?  The first time we see them together, he chastises her for being late.  And then outside, the way he says “Etta…” when she tells him she’s been looking for info on the original team reminded me way too much of when my parents would find out just how much homework I’d put off doing.
I know there’s no way for her to know this, but Simon is similar to S1 Peter, in that he’s a shady guy with his heart ultimately in the right place.
And here’s what has me desperately hoping that their relationship was paternal.  How poetic would it be, if it was her father figure who sacrificed himself so she could have her father?  I like that more than a romantic pairing, especially since so much of Fringe for me has been about parents.
I hope I haven’t grossed out any shippers, feel free to ignore this theory.  Hopefully we’ll get more episodes to explore this relationship. :)

Etta’s Necklace:

I’m new to tumblr and don’t know how to hide spoilery posts with the Read More button.  So I’m just gonna warn you not to read if you haven’t watched Letters of Transit (in which case I feel sorry for you).
K, so I’m pretty sure I’m stating the obvious, but after I finally got over the emotional mess that 419 left me in I could still only think of two people Etta’s bullet shot.
The first possibility is obviously Olivia.  Although with the way Walter talked about what Bell did to Olivia, I can’t help but think whatever happened to her must have been more terrible than a bullet.  (A very worried part of me feels that she’s been in the Observers custody for the past 20 years, thinking that both Peter and Etta are dead).  It would make sense if Man X shot Olivia with that bullet, but ever since 319 I’ve been sure that Olivia’s going to meet her end by flare gun.
And the second possibility, and this one may seem a little out there, but it’s the one that I think is more likely, is that the bullet shot September.  I have a very strong sense that Etta is alive because of September.  It’s implied that September has (for lack of a better word) “defected” in that he cares about the Fringe team, much like August with Christine, so I would find it incredibly poetic if September revolted against his people by saving the child of one of their most significant enemies.
If this is the case, I doubt that Etta really knows the whole story behind the bullet.  She might just know that it’s part of the story of what happened to her parents.
Let me know if you have any other ideas of who the bullet shot, or if you notice anything wrong with my guesses :)
